Dry Eye

Do you experience dry, burning, gritty, red or watery eyes? Have you struggled with contact lenses or just given up? Dry eyes are an especially common condition in our Colorado climate. Symptoms are burning or gritty sensations, redness, and occasional excess tearing.

Dry Eye Syndrome, also called Ocular Surface Disease, is a common medical condition that affects many of us. It is often ignored or under-diagnosed and left untreated. The result is that many of us just tolerate the chronic irritation and troublesome symptoms.

Many effective treatments exist for Ocular Surface Disease. Prescription eye drops, oral medications, punctal plugs, and supportive therapy are examples that may be helpful in managing your condition. Eye Care Center of Colorado Springs has effective dry eye treatments to help patients gain relief from chronic dry eyes.

PROKERA® are FDA approved biologic corneal bandage devices which are used for the treatment of severe chronic dry eye, keratitis, recurrent corneal erosions, or even herpetic ulcers.  Prokera promotes regeneration of the corneal surface by reducing inflammation of the ocular surface.

tranquileyesTRANQUILEYES™ Eye hydrating Therapy in Colorado Springs. TRANQUILEYES™ EYE HYDRATING THERAPY provides soothing relief from chronic dry eyes. Moist heat therapy helps to stimulate tear production. Increased humidity helps prevent the evaporation of natural and artificial tears, bathing the cornea in moisture.

Additionally, we carry a number of other supplements and eye-health products that can help to relieve dry eye symptoms.

Tear drainage occlusion with punctal plugs is an effective, comfortable, permanent solution for dry eye relief. Tiny silicone plugs are inserted into the tear drainage system and work by slowing tear loss from the eye surface.

Treatment and Evaluation for Dry Eyes
During your dry eye evaluation we will measure your tear production and tear quality. The use of special diagnostic dyes will reveal the presence of any dry or damaged cells on the eye surface. Timed tests of tear evaporation and tear production combined with examination of the tear producing glands of the eye and lids are used to help understand the severity of your condition and design the best treatment.
